Welcome & Background on BIP
Welcome to my blog! Here you will find many topics, many of them controversial, being discussed, I welcome intelligently written and well-thought out comments. I don't have a problem with you disagreeing with me, but don't be cruel. I will screen all comments and I will not approve ones that I consider cruel, or bother me in some way.
I feel that I need to let the reader know about my background a bit. I am pursuing (slowly) a degree in English. I hope to one day have a Master’s Degree. I am very career-oriented and am childfree by choice. If you want to know more about being childfree then you should read my essay called The Childfree Choice. I explain my feelings about reproduction and its consequences as well as outlining my reasons for not wanting to bear and/or raise children.I am also an ovo-lacto vegetarian. I don’t consume anything that was the product of slaughter of any animals. That does include seafood of any kind as well. I have discovered numerous benefits from the choice. I have been a vegetarian for a little over 15 yrs. If you’d like to know more about my journey with this lifestyle choice there is an essay entitled Vegetarian Verity on my main website.
I am somewhat libertarian. I am against censorship on television, but I do believe in nationwide healthcare. We already have Medicaid and Medicare. It works for other countries pretty well. No system is perfect, but there are way too many people who can’t get the care that they need. Another topic that is very controversial, especially in America, as a primarily Christian moralist country, is the subject of decriminalization of prostitution. I feel this is a very important issue. I even wrote a paper about this for school which I will post very soon as well.
I feel with Black Iris Publishing I can reach people on an intellectual and rational level. I feel that many conservative people can learn to understand those with alternative lifestyles and viewpoints. I want to foster a civilization of community, tolerance, and kindness. By teaching people that our opinions, thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and ideas can be different yet we can still get along and try to understand one another. I will be writing a paper soon on the dangerous cult-like quality of the religious right fundamentalists. I will post this paper as soon as it is finished.
I believe American culture and society needs a complete overhaul. We need to slowly move away from the confines of dogma, moralistic judgments, and condemning of our fellow human beings.
Here are a few of the topics that I will be discussing in my blog in the future:
- Fundamentalism in America
- Abortion and the right to choose
- Decriminalization of prostitution
- Women's rights
- Modern Feminism
- Patriarchal society
- Animal rights
- Apt. policies against pets
